Managing Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager - HS2 Rail Project - London
Salary: £70,000 - £90,000 + Travel Allowance + Package
Locations: Old Oak Common (near Acton) or Elephant & Castle
We are recruiting for a Managing Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager to join a leading main contractor delivering the Mechanical & Electrical systems on HS2's flagship Old Oak Common Station.
This is a rare opportunity to play a key role on one of the UK's most high-profile rail projects, with long-term secured work, major responsibility, and genuine career progression.
We are open to applicants who are already operating at Commercial Manager level or experienced Managing QS professionals with strong NEC and sector expertise who are ready to step up.
The Role
- Take commercial lead across major packages of MEP works on HS2
- Manage subcontract procurement, negotiation, change and final accounts
- Oversee NEC3/NEC4 contract administration (upstream and downstream)
- Provide clear commercial and risk advice to senior leadership and project teams
- Produce CVRs, cost forecasts, margin improvement plans and robust financial reporting
- Draft contractual notices, including Early Warnings and Compensation Events
- Build strong working relationships with client teams, subcontractors and stakeholders
- Lead and mentor junior commercial staff within the project team
Candidate Requirements
- Proven track record as a Commercial Manager or Managing QS within UK rail, infrastructure, or major projects
- Hands-on experience with NEC3/NEC4 contracts (essential)
- Strong subcontract management and dispute resolution background
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Degree-qualified and/or RICS accredited (or working towards) desirable
- MEP experience or background with main contractors / joint ventures highly beneficial
- Right to work in the UK (sponsorship is not available)
