Fibre Network Designer

You will play will play a key role in ensuring the company delivers accurate and efficient designs to build teams and in effectively managing changes required as they go through the plan and build lifecycle.

Role Summary:

  • Key role designing full fibre network
  • A real mix of desk and field work- both surveying and designing based of your own surveys
  • Work extensively with other departments as we build the company
  • Undertake ad hoc design extensions to new build areas such as MDUs and private roads

Responsibilities

  • Work with outsourced design partners to ensure they have the detail required to deliver our design pipeline
  • ​Undertake on site surveys and complete efficient designs for MDUs to help drive down the overall cost per home
  • Ensure the accuracy of network records and that all design changes are fully reflected in all relevant documentation
  • Manage the handover of data to construction teams and ensure ongoing accurate data capture​
  • Undertake pre design surveys to capture data that will influence the build​
  • Work with Customer install team to find solutions to bespoke and challenging installs and network extensions

Your skills

  • Demonstrate an analytical skillset to understand the full impact of changes on the design and associated outputs​
  • Detailed knowledge and experience using QGIS or other similar GIS platforms to design fibre networks​
  • Ability to manage change to network designs and how to accurately record and communicate the impact of that change​
  • Able to create, edit and improve all aspects of a Fibre design job pack (Construction drawings, SLDs, Fibre Allocation, Bill of Materials) and work with construction teams to improve output quality​
  • Excellent communicator- able to simplify complex change and explain the impact to non-experts. Able to work with construction teams to gather their feedback and understanding of issues

Experience:

  • Experience designing large scale FTTP networks with detailed understanding of network topologies and architectures​
  • Experience of working in/designing around the Openreach network and a strong knowledge of how the PIA product works​
  • Experience of both desk based planning and field surveying- ability to record information from the field and then use that to issue or change designs

Professional Skills and Background:

  • FTTP design experience/qualifications
  • GIS software experience (ideally QGIS)
  • Full Driving License that permits you to drive a vehicle in the UK
