Brief

The Challenger 2 (CR2) Life Extension Programme (LEP) Level 2 Engineering Manager (EM) role will be leading the development and delivery of the electronic architecture aspects of the CR2 LEP design, managing technical risk during the development and manufacturing phases of the acquisition lifecycle and preparation for Critical Design Review (CDR)

What the role entails:

Some of the main duties of the Power Electronics Engineer will include:

Engineer for the development of the Electronic Architecture for CR2 LEP. This area of responsibility covers a number of aspects of E2A:

• Electrical Power
  • Support Power CDR and overall CR2 LEP CDR
  • Technical assurance of design progress (inc. power distribution & overload, over current protection, load dump)
  • Collaborative development of Power Control Plan
• C4I
  • Support preparation and conduct of CDR
  • Technical assurance of design progress (inc. integration of Bowman)
• EMC
  • Support preparation and conduct of CDR
  • Technical assurance of design progress
  • Management of interfacing activities (inc. testing and characterisation)
• Generic Vehicle Architecture (GVA)
  • Support preparation and conduct of CDR
  • Technical assurance of the design progress
• ECM
  • Support preparation and conduct of CDR
  • Technical assurance of the design progress
  • Tailored limits and application of EMC control plan and potential hazards
• Management of the main contractor in the development of the design, ensuring adherence to the SRD, DE&S policy and Defence Standards.
• Facilitation and Coordination with other technical domains and stakeholders (including Safety, Security, ILS, GVA, etc.)
• Management of Dstl support to this area.
• Lead for working groups with Contractor.
• Engineering input into the conduct of internal planning and review of the development phase.
• Identification and management of engineering risk, including safety risks, associated with the development of this area of work.
• Review of deliverables in preparation for CDR.
• Ensuring progress towards sub-system CDRs and platform CDR.

What experience you need to be the successful Power Electronics Engineer:

• Understanding of the principles and concepts of the areas of responsibility covered, predominately Electrical Power, C4I, EMC and software.
• Application of standards, guidelines and codes of practice relevant for the programme, namely (not exhaustive) Defence Standard 61-005, Defence Standard 23-009, Defence Standard 00-82, Defence Standard 59-411 and Defence Standard 59-114.

No letter of delegation. Safety and financial delegation is held by the CR2 LEP PM. The role shall be responsible for making decisions in regards to the content and progress of the tasks within their area of responsibility and for accepting Contractor deliverables.
