🚢 Principal Safety & Environmental Engineer
Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Bristol, or Portsmouth
Salary: £50,000 - £65,000 + Benefits
Work Style: Hybrid and flexible working options available

🔧 What You'll Be Doing
- Develop and maintain the Project Safety Management System within a Systems Engineering framework
- Lead hazard and risk assessments using modern techniques like STAMP & STPA
- Produce and manage Safety Management Plans and Justification Plans
- Influence the construction and delivery of Safety Cases throughout the project lifecycle
- Conduct peer reviews and assurance tasks to ensure robustness of safety documentation
- Mentor and oversee junior engineers in the Product Safety team
- Apply knowledge of Quality, HS&E, and wider Safety Case documentation
🎓 Your Skills & Experience
- Essential:
- Degree in STEM or equivalent qualification
- Understanding of environmental challenges affecting product safety
- Experience with safety analysis techniques: FMEA, HAZOP, FTA
- Proven ability to compile and deliver Safety Case Reports and supporting documentation
- Familiarity with Project Safety Management Systems
- Strong analytical skills to interpret technical data and build safety arguments
- Desirable:
- Chartered or working towards Chartership
- Knowledge of submarine lifecycle phases: design, manufacturing, testing
- Experience with modern safety techniques: STAMP, STPA, FRAM
- Understanding of Systems Engineering Standards in safety contexts
- Experience leading technical meetings and working groups
