Brief
Mechanical Team Leader needed for an engineering firm with offices in Kent who are looking to an experience and well-rounded Mechanical Team Leader that takes pride in their work.
You will manage a team of mechanical engineers taking responsibility for workload management ensuring time, cost and quality objectives are met alongside training and development and all relevant aspects of performance management.
What the role of the Mechanical Team Leader entails:
Some of the main duties of the Mechanical Team Leader will include:
- Prepare project plans, direct a team in their implementation, monitor and report progress and spend against agreed budgets and timescales
- Meet project reporting requirements such as provision of monthly reports and attendance at weekly reviews
- Devise and maintain resource plans and ensure allocation of mechanical engineering resources to meet project demands
- Identify recruitment requirements to ensure forecasted demands for mechanical engineering work can be met, and support the mechanical engineering manager in the recruitment of permanent and contract staff
- Prepare and implement training and induction plans for new starts, contractors and apprentices working in the mechanical engineering team
- Coordinate and conduct performance and development reviews
- Understand and provide governance on the adherence of mechanical team members, and associated project teams to departmental and company policies and procedures
- Prepare estimates in support of new bids, and support the generation of proposal development and documentation
- Coaching & developing the skills of your team members
- Working with other disciplines within an integrated team to optimise solutions and minimise impacts from dependencies
- Adopting an innovative approach to design and identifying improvements to working practices
What experience you need to be the successful Mechanical Team Leader:
Essential:
- Mechanical engineering background
- Experience in managing individual and team performance and supporting the professional development of staff
- Able to demonstrate experience leading product development teams through the engineering development lifecycle, from concept through to production, including solving problems using new technologies and innovations for complex engineering systems
- Experience of project planning and execution and in creating and understanding estimates
Desirable:
- Working knowledge of the following tools would be advantageous:
- PTC CREO 3 (or later release)
- JIRA
- Requirements management tools such as DOORS
- System development tools such as MATLAB, Simulink
