We have a new opportunity open with one of the UK's biggest and most famous Engineering companies for a Safety Engineer with Nuclear Industry experience (we can accept civil / power gen or military / defence backgrounds).

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a major programme on a very importantr UK Nuclear Licensed Site. This once in a lifetime major infrastructure programme is replacing the current facilities with a state of the art manufacturing capability.

This part of the company is responsible for the design, manufacture, supply and through-life support of nuclear powered propulsion-related products and systems in support of the Royal Navy's submarine fleet. Yopu will support the Royal Navy as the Technical Authority for UK Naval Reactor Submarine Plants, and we're continuing to build our nuclear sector capability to support the development of a new nuclear plant for future submarines.

The Role:

  • Produce Nuclear Safety Cases for new Nuclear Manufacturing Facilities
  • Challenging the norm to develop modern standard Safety Case.
  • Undertake Hazard Identification and analysis assessments to determine Nuclear accident scenarios and engineered prevention mechanisms.
  • Integrating cross-functional learning from Nuclear, Radiological and Process Safety best practice.
  • Carrying out numerical assessment of risk from normal and accident conditions.
  • Supporting the development of the Operating Range for Nuclear Facilities and Plant
  • Developing ALARP arguments supporting nuclear safety cases.
  • Integrating design data into safety case claims, arguments and evidence-based cases.


Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Degree in Engineering, Maths, Physics or equivalent.
  • A demonstrable ability to work in multidisciplinary teams to tight deadlines.
  • The ability to provide clear, concise and accurate technical reports.
  • Experience or knowledge of hazard identification techniques such as FMEAs, HAZOPs, Fault & Event Tree Analysis, and reliability evaluation methods would be an advantage.
  • Experience or knowledge of hazard assessment processes would be an advantage, including design basis assessment techniques (e.g. production of fault schedules, the derivation of safety functional requirements) and As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) assessments.
  • Appreciation of the role of human factors and human reliability as part of safety cases would be an advantage.
  • Experience as a nuclear safety case author or assessor, with knowledge of existing UK licensed or authorised plants or sites or other relevant similarly regulated industry would be an advantage.


To work in this role an individual has to hold a minimum of an Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance.
