Product Safety Engineer

Role Overview:
· Demonstrating an understanding of how to assure products from the first principles of safety engineering.
· Supporting across the Underwater Weapons portfolio.
· Developing efficient yet effective safety arguments, often from first principles.
· Providing credible advice and guidance to the project team on Product Safety matters, ensuring that safety considerations are an integral part of the design process, taking cognisance of the whole product lifecycle
· Ensuring project compliance with applicable UK and international legislation in particular, but not limited to, compliance with DSA02-DMR and other Ministry of Defence procedures
· Deploying the latest thinking from across industry and academia to support new cutting-edge work on the safety of future product designs, including active work moving into the Model Based Safety Assurance arena
Your skills and experience:
· Engineering/Systems/Safety degree or equivalent
· Proven understanding of Safety Engineering
· Knowledge of relevant defence safety legislation & standards
· Understanding of product development and delivery lifecycles
This role is working within a highly complex subject area as they contain OME products that require on-going, detailed scrutiny to ensure they remain ALARP and compliant with relevant MOD Safety Policies (e.g., DSA03 OME).
As a member of this team you will be supporting the assurance cases of all in-service torpedoes. In addition to assuring the torpedoes you may also be responsible for the assurance of the test and support equipment used during the development, servicing and maintenance of the weapons.
