Managing Quantity Surveyor
up to £72,000 + £8k car & package
I have an opportunity for a Managing Quantity Surveyor to join a growing team of surveyors at a large, London based main contractor. My client works across the infrastructure, civil engineering and building sectors and has a history dating back nearly 70 years. Today they have revenues of nearly £1bn and are regularly appointed onto high profile projects across the UK. This particular opportunity will see you joining their building business which is focused on the delivery of residential projects for clients including Legal & General, Hackney Council, UK Real Estate, Islington BC and their own in house development business. You'll be tasked with building and running a new, third team in this specialist part of the business.
As the Managing Quantity Surveyor, you'll be given the freedom and support to start a new team to ensure the business can continue to grow and develop in the future. Your team will be calling on your experience to manage the commercial delivery of 2-4 projects at a time with each valuing between £20m and £30m. As well as acting as a mentor to junior surveyors, you'll also be working on pre & post contract commercial duties, including:
- Procurement of subcontractors
- Attending and running pre-start meetings
- Preparation & negotiation of contracts
- Full subcontract management
- Cost reporting
- Authorising payments to suppliers & subcontractors
- Mentoring junior surveyors
- Providing commercial advice to others in the business
The Managing Quantity Surveyor will be given an opportunity to quickly progress their career. This will include the support of an approachable, young and knowledgeable Senior Commercial team and realistic opportunities for progression to Commercial Manager. You'll also be given in house training and support to pursue chartered status with the RICS and you'll be offered a good starting salary and supporting package that includes:
- Starting salary of up to £72,000
- £8k car allowance
- 27 days annual leave
- Private pension contributions
- private healthcare
- Payment of professional fees
- Discretionary bonus
Managing Quantity Surveyors considering this opportunity must have recent experience within a large main contractor, excellent communication skills and a sound understanding of the JCT contract. You'll also need to have a degree or similar in a construction related field and familiar with the responsibilities of leading a small team.
